DOJO RULES

1. Always bow when greeting or parting Sensei, no matter where you see him - i.e., in the dojo, in the parking lot, at the mall, on the moon, etc. (When in doubt, bow). Not to bow or even hesitate will be considered an act of disrespect.

2. Always bow before entering the dojo. (Open the door, bow, then step in). Always bow in the direction of the Kamidana (little house) when entering and exiting the tatami mat. Never step on the Kamiza raised mat (mat that Sensei sits on by the scroll).

3. Always bow to one another while training on the tatami mat.

4. The common response to Sensei is "Hai" which means "Yes"

5. No cell phones permitted in dojo (leave in your car). Unless you have a prior agreement with Sensei.

6. No jewelry, hats, or shoes to be worn while on tatami mats. White or black tabi shoes are required on the mats.

7. Be respectful to your fellow students.

8. Be respectful to other martial artists outside of dojo. Never engage in Internet bashing of other martial arts or martial artists.

9. Richard Denney & Dominic Martin are the dojo Sempai (Head students). They will be addressed as "Sempai"

10. All students must attend at least 1 class a week but 2 is preferred. .

11. Do not teach Senso-Ryu Aiki-Jujutsu outside of the dojo without permission from Sensei.

12. Students must carpool to dojo. Find out from higher ranking student where the current meeting place is to leave your car and carpool to dojo. This isn't an option.

13. There are many schools and many martial arts out there available to you. If you choose to train in this dojo, you will follow the rules. No one is above the dojo rules. Do not waste Hanulak Sensei's time with nonsense and excuses.

Counting of Breathes

Absolute Samadhi with mantra - OM

Reflex Exercises

Round House Reflexing - high and low, one and two hands, single and multiple attackers. Close Order Reflex- 2 men - 1 & 2 Hands

The Quad - 4 or more attackers with one, two, and three attack sequences.

Open / Close Quad - Opening and closing eyes before multiple attacks

The Gauntlet- to develop facility in handling lateral attacks [ a minimum of seven students are required, six on the line with one walking through].

Monkey in the Middle Reflex - One or more students in full armor are placed in the center of a circle of students. They offer the students along the perimeter of the circle continuous and random attacks. The defenders will respond with full contact to the armored areas on the attackers.

Dark Monkey in the Middle - Above exercise in the dark

Tied-Feet Exercises - having the student defend various attacks while his feet are tied together.

Principles

Movement

When Entered - Turn
When Pulled - Enter

Chokusen no Irmi - Direct Entering
Sankaku no Irmi - Triangle Entering

Direction of strength

Leading

Striking

Exploding Principle - All internal targets are visualized by the student as cream puffs and when struck are to be visualized as "exploding".

Striking Thru Principle - All penetrating weapons are to be considered by the student as arrows penetrating deep into the attacker's body [Le. Vertical Fist, palm-heal strike, side-thrust kick, etc.]

Sword Principle - All slashing weapons are to be visualized by the student as swords (i.e. Shuto, Reverse Shuto, roundhouse kick) that 'slash through' the attacker's targets.

Phantom Target Principle - The actual targets are to be internal targets with the external 'targets' being merely paths.

Distance Principles

Last Step Principle - taking the last step away from attacker so as to place oneself in front of the attacker's power. Doing this causes the focus of the attacker's power to fall along a path behind the defender.

Opening the Gates - Offering the opponent an apparently undefended target and as a result causing the attacker to launch his attack to that target.

Closing the Gates - Withdrawing or Sealing of the target from the opponent causing the attacker to freeze.

Pinning to the Earth - Dipping one's body and creating a feminine vacuum in order to lead or pull the opponent's mind into the ground thus causing him to be unable to move.

Pulsing Principles - Compression of the opponent's movements.

Herding Principles - Controlling the opponent's lateral movement through shield pressing. Particularly useful against boxing attackers.

Funneling Principle - the understanding that all attacks "funnel-in" to the defender.

White line Principle - the understanding that the attacker will always remain on a straight line relevant to the defender.

Merging Principle - the art of merging with the opponent's force [both major and minor motions].

Sapping Principles (direction of mind) - tapping on, blowing on, striking, - distracting the opponent to weaken his grab.

Power Changes - the development of beginner's power through relaxation and acceleration of their strikes.

Power Press Principles - the 'electric-buzzing' pressing of nerve centers.
